Building Bikes for Kids

Star Insurance recently celebrated the end of another successful financial year with a staff party in the basement of our Auckland building (we also had the Christmas party here, with some black curtains & good lighting it transforms nicely into a stylish entertainment venue!).

Because we’re all about stuff with wheels our team building event for the evening involved building bicycles for donation to a local school.

Manurewa West Primary is accumulating bikes to be used at the school to teach children to ride, as the majority of their students aren’t lucky enough to have their own bike at home.
Their goal is to have 60 bikes so they can involve 2 classes of kids at one time, and Star has gifted 15 for them.

With staff split into teams, we each put together a bicycle which was then checked over by a mechanic from a local bike store. Later in the evening staff and students from Manurewa West Primary arrived at the office to collect the bikes with our excited (& sometimes emotional) staff keen to ride with the kids around the office carpark.

 It was such a delight to see happy smiles on all the children.
