Ready for the Star treatment?
Enjoy real world RV insurance.
Buying and maintaining an RV is a big investment, which is why you need to look beyond what sounds good or looks good on paper. Dig deeper and you’ll see what you’re really covered for, and realise that most insurers only insure the cab and chassis, and have to refer to a third party (especially for claims) for any decisions regarding your policy. This can be hugely frustrating.
Star CamperCare, on the other hand, take care of everything in-house and insure anything that you’d typically sell with your RV. We include all the important components like the fridge and stove, and anything that’s a permanent fixture, inside and out, including awnings. As an added benefit, included in all of our policies is $3,000 loose contents cover as standard. You can upgrade this if needed. Most other insurers just insure the cab and chassis and very few come close to what we offer.
We go way beyond ticking boxes to offer a personalised and customised process to ensure the right fit for your needs. We don’t let spreadsheets determine outcomes because your insurance needs to be as unique as you, which is why our customers enjoy the best care and protection.
As New Zealand’s leading RV insurance specialist we provide ultimate care and protection at the best price.
New Zealand’s best roadside assistance - 0800 888 247
Peace of mind knowing you have outstanding roadside assistance to keep you moving.
All Star Insurance CamperCare policies include an exclusive Roadside Assistance membership supplied by New Zealand Roadside Assistance, which gives you nationwide, 24/7 breakdown assistance and support. We’re proud to have a market-leading annual limit for roadside and tow. Our exclusive membership applies to the vehicle (not the driver) and gives you or anyone driving your RV extra peace of mind and assistance in the event of a breakdown.
If the problem can’t be fixed roadside, we’ll get you to safety. Our exclusive Roadside Assistance membership has market-leading annual limits for roadside and tow. It provides towage to the nearest place of safety* to a maximum of $1,000 per callout, with three callouts per year. That means across the year, our membership has the highest combined level of roadside services available in New Zealand.
*Nearest place of safety = a secure tow yard, mechanical repair premises or a nominated home address (whichever is the closest to the breakdown)

What do I need to get a quote?
- Personal details
Obviously we need to collect some personal details about you, including your driver’s licence info, date of birth, address and more. This helps to paint an overall picture of your policy application.
- Vehicle details
What RV do you want insured? What is its registration number? This information will let us see a lot more detail as we tap into the NZTA website. We’ll also ask how the RV is being used and how often.
- Your driving history
Have you started a collection of speeding tickets, had previous accidents, and/or any convictions? These are 3 of the 8 questions we’ll ask you as part of this process. Insurance is based on good faith, which is why it’s important to make honest statements about your driving history. Otherwise you may face consequences that were avoidable during a claim.
- We then receive your information
At this stage we have your information and your file is allocated a quote number which is immediately emailed to you. We’ll then personally review your application and prepare your insurance options.
If your application is received within business hours, we normally email your options back to you within 30 minutes. To view your options, click on the link in our email. Next, choose your preference along with any policy add-ons, then choose your policy start date (from the current day to 30-days in the future), choose monthly or annual payments and make payment. Presto, you’re insured.
Insurance is based on good faith. Which is why it’s important to be honest about your history, so that there are no dramas if you make a claim. We’re all about starting and maintaining good relationships. Why? Because trust and honesty are the foundation of lasting relationships.
Frequently asked questions.
So what do you think? Got some questions?
-
Yes, we can extend cover but we need further information to assess this risk. Please call our knowledgeable team to discuss this with them.
-
This depends on whether your insurance policy is limited to only you driving. Some insurance policies restrict who can drive, or limit drivers to over 25. Many insurance policies will not also not insure your vehicle if you are renting it out to someone. It always pays to check with your insurer.
-
In most circumstances, anyone over the age of 25, holding a Full New Zealand drivers licence that permits them to drive the class of vehicle your vehicle fits into, is covered to drive.
Drivers under the age of 25 and drivers holding a driver's licence from any country other than NZ can be insured, however, you will need to notify us.
-
For average motorhomes insurance often costs in the region of $500 - $1500 a year, but motorhome insurance costs depend on factors like model, age, features, the construction type of your motorhome, how regularly you use it and other questions an insurance company may think relevant.
-
An excess is the amount that you contribute to a claim. If you make a claim and it's accepted, your insurer will pay the repair or replacement costs that are over your excess amount. If the accident is not your fault your excess will often be refunded to you.
-
Yes, photos are very helpful as they can show our assessing team what has been damaged before the vehicle is seen by a repairer. Please obtain accident site photos only if it is safe to do so.
-
Yes, when we reference glass, we include windscreens in this description. The description of glass also includes windows, headlights, taillights and the sunroof (if installed)

If you have purchased your vehicle new from a registered NZ dealer, you have agreed value for 5-years.
If you have purchased second hand from a registered NZ dealer, you have agreed value for 3-years.
If your situation doesn’t fit with either of these options, you can apply for agreed value by supplying us with a written valuation, which we will send to our assessing team for approval.
